Mid-Week Celebration

It's not everyday that your next door neighbor calls and says,
"Hey, I'm getting married in the front yard this afternoon,
come on over!"
But that's exactly what happened yesterday.
What a fun Wednesday!

Congratulations, Lorna and Ralph!

Porch Inspired

As the weather warms and we spend more time on the front porch, I'm looking for porch inspiration everywhere.
My latest fave is this little Novogratz discovery.
....especially LOVE the light.

Friday Table

To brighten up a little, I'm bringing in the blooms.
Unfortunately, my yard is no longer flowering, but I received this little beauty as a gift.

Thanks Leslie!

Urns, Are You Kidding Me Right Now?

I've seriously put 10 bizillion coats of paint on these urns and nothing's working.
The first shade of Trash Can Green was hideous.
The second shade, Calypso Blue, loosely translated means:
"So Bright My Neighbors Will Need Sunnies at Night."
Grrrrrrr!

Disclaimer:  I know you're thinking they don't look THAT bad in this pic.
And, they do look ok on the porch when you're standing beside them.
BUT!
The problem comes in when you leave the porch; way too bright!
I'm having visions of Rudolph's nose here - they kinda stand out.
...in a bad way.

Porch Project

Since moving in this house, I've searched extensively for front porch urns.
I finally found a pretty pair in Brimfield, but they would need some paint because I didn't want black.
After more searching, I found the perfect paint color, {via House of Turquoise} Blue Peacock.
My beautiful Blue Peacock is much more Trash Can Green and
less Blue Peacock.
Ugh!
Back to the drawing, or painting, board.

Change of Pace

It's amazing what a difference a few fresh flowers and new
candle can make!

Washington, Lee, and a Nightstand

I'm a firm believer that you can always find things in the most unexpected places, and now, I have a nightstand to prove it.

Being the big history buff he is, "Husband" wanted to make a pilgrimage to Lexington, VA, home of Washington & Lee University,
to see the final resting place of General Robert E. Lee.
So we did.
The campus was beautiful, Lee Chapel was so nicely done, and the town is adorable.
(...this is where the cute nightstand part comes in.)
While waiting for the chapel to open, we stumbled upon a store with a 30% off sign in the window.
....and a super cute oversized nightstand in the SAME window!
We came back when they opened and left with the super cute nightstand in our truck!

It was a good day.
(Cue "Dixieland")

Fun Chairs

I love it when you meet people you enjoy dealing with
and that was the case at every stop in Brimfield.
These cute boys were fantastic and so much fun to buy chairs from.
They're based in da' ATL, can't wait to stop in and visit on our next trip.

Hello, fun chairs!

Storage Pieces

My main reason for going to Brimfield was to pick up a few storage pieces.
It seems like all the shows around here are focusing on smaller items these days and I need big furniture that will provide plenty of storage.
Brimfield came through for me!

This is going in my studio, formerly known as The Craft Room.

Brimfield Or Bust

You really never know what to expect on a first trip,
but I really didn't expect THAT MUCH STUFF!
...or for the town to be THAT tiny!
As Jason and I learned, you really can get lost in there.
And, going back to pick up something you bought is a nightmare.
But.
If you're looking for something, I guarantee it's there!
The show is HUGE, bring some walking shoes
...and plenty of winter gear.
Cause Mass is ALWAYS cold to this Southern girl.

Ms. Shabby Chic

Let me begin by saying, in my house, I am the celebrity spotter.
When Miley Cyrus was ordering her Chick-Fil-A in SouthPark Mall,
I spotted her.
When Ludacris was walking down the street 5 feet in front of us,
I spotted him.
When Mike Myers was eating in the same restaurant, (in London)
I saw him.
Patrick Swayze was waiting on a cab at LAX.
Venus and Serena Williams were with us at Heathrow following Wimbledon wins.

Am I forgetting anybody here?

Granted, in Charlotte, Steve Smith sightings are not uncommon.
BUT, I was the only one onto his lame disguise;
gray sweats and a gray hoodie (over his head inside the mall.)
Come on now!
You're not fooling me - you still can't hide that you're no taller than me and as wide as a mini-van.
And, we see your face under that helmet every Sunday so when you almost tackle me in front of Burberry,
I know who you are!!

Anyway, on to the MOST IMPORTANT story.
It was 6:00am on the first day of the Brimfield show.
It was super cold, rainy, and dark; the sun really wasn't up yet.
Jason had walked to a booth on the right and I walked to a booth on the left.
When I looked back to meet Jason in the middle,
THERE SHE WAS!
Rachel Ashwell, Ms. Shabby Chic herself!
Jason said I was so excited that I started throwing all my stuff at him in order to get my camera out.
I'm sure he was right, I was SOOOOOO excited!!
I mean, if that isn't a sign you're in the right place -
you're out antiquing with THE Antiquing Queen!
Crazy!

(Excuse the bad pictures, I just can't bring myself to actually take pictures with celebs.  I prefer to stalk them from afar!)

Lucky for me, by 9:00am (which felt like 2:00pm) the "husband" was starving and wanted something to eat.
Jason got in line and there she was again!
So, this time I HAD to say hello.
And, I'm happy to report that she's the sweetest person ever.
She was so interested in my house and went on and on about the High Point Market when she found out we were in Charlotte.
I asked if there were any new books coming out soon and she has two releases in 2013.

Such a sweet lady!
...and an adorable assistant.
THAT was worth the trip to Massachusetts!

PS - I saw her walking around later in the day with a pair of antlers and Jason watched her buy 4 little side tables (all for $125) so I'll be looking for those on her blog!

Whew!

We're Back!
With a truck full of stuff.
And, we didn't kill each other!
...on the long road trip.

I'm still sorting through the pictures,
But, here's a hint of one thing I "found" in Brimfield.
....I think this was my most exciting find EVER!!!!

...pictures and full detail of our travels to come soon!

Brimfield Bound

SO WHAT IS THE BRIMFIELD SHOW???  Only the largest outdoor antique show in the world, held since 1959 in Brimfield, Massachusetts, three times each year, with thousands of dealers attending!  Brimfield is an easy 1-hour ride west of Boston.

Thanks, "Husband," you're the best!

I know you saw the posting on the Perch. blog,
but did ya see this?

In Love With a Shoe

I really have issues with shoes that don't fit.
And shoes, almost always, don't fit.
But, these do!
...really well, I might add.

(Loeffler Randall)

Love.  This.  Shoe!
